SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA – August 17, 2009: GM Daewoo Auto & Technology (GM Daewoo) announced today that it will host a live Internet broadcast of the launch ceremony for its next-generation global mini-car, the Matiz Creative, from the Seoul Grand Hyatt Hotel on August 19.

The one-hour broadcast will begin at 11:00 a.m. GM Daewoo’s corporate website (www.gmdaewoo.co.kr) and the Matiz Creative homepage (www. matizcreative.com) will both carry the event live. GM Daewoo is broadcasting the launch of the Matiz Creative to introduce to a wide audience its new global mini-car and to celebrate its debut with Matiz Creative customers nationwide.

During the broadcast, GM Daewoo will show video clips of the story of the Matiz Creative’s development, which has been widely followed by netizens, and its participation at motor shows around the world. Viewers will be able to ask questions about the vehicle and receive real-time answers through Online Chat Box. This is not the first time that GM Daewoo will have broadcast the launch of a new product. KIA Venga to debut in Frankfurt Motor Show PDF Print E-mail
Written by Abhinav Sharma

KIA is all set to show its Venga off in the mother of all motor shows which starts Spetember 15. Now by looking at it, we feel its shares a lot with the i20 that we get in our country. Designed, engineered and built in Europe, the Venga will be marketed specifically to the suburban and inner-city demographic, taking on other ‘ultramini’ small cars such as the Ford Fiesta (hatch, not the sedan). Hyundai and Kia share a lot of platforms and engines. The Kia Picanto is essentially a rebranded Hyundai Santro and shares the same drivetrain and mechanicals.

The Kia Venga is slightly longer than the Fiesta, at 4068mm, but thanks to its more upright rear end, taller roofline and long wheelbase (2615mm), it should offer significantly more storage and passenger space. With the Venga’s 60/40-split folding rear seats, luggage space is increased, and a double-level boot floor adds extra storage options for small items. The dramatic glass windscreen and roof of the No 3 concept may be gone, but the large panoramic glass moonroof - featuring tilt-and-slide opening - gives the Venga a more open, airy feel.

The 2010 Kia Venga will be offered with either a 55kW 1.4 litre petrol engine, or a 1.6 litre diesel engine developing around 85kW. The Venga will launch in the left-hand-drive European market later this year, with no word yet on availability in right-hand-drive markets such as Australia.

General Invention Time: Volt is a Chevy is a 230mpg car!! PDF Print E-mail
Written by Abhinav Sharma

Now this news might be a bit old, I mean it was reported almost two days back. I was thinking hard of how much this feat would be of relevance to India and the Indian customer, well not much for now but a hell lot in the long run. This car will change the rules of the game if mass produced, which it will be.

The Chevy Volt has been under development since the beginning of 2006 by General Motors. It has about three body styles, differing slightly on a common platoform but the later one that we have seen released by GM is the most radical a regular car like. Scheduled to debut in US in late 2010 or possibly 2011, the car claims a mileage of 230 miles on a gallon of petrol which is nothing but astonishing. This is not just some wild news in the media but a feat which is almost as important as the invention of the Internal Combustion Engine a 100 years ago. We might just have all cars running on this technology in not less than 20 years and could remain so for atleast another 100 years. Well the General has truely proved itself that it is indeed 'the' General Motors. This car is an invention which runs on a lot of batteries and uses a little engine generator to charge them up. Unlike traditional electric cars, Chevy Volt has a revolutionary propulsion system that takes you beyond the power of the battery. It will use a lithium-ion battery with a gasoline-powered, range-extending engine that drives a generator to provide electric power when you drive beyond the 40-mile battery range. That means for someone who drives less than 40 miles a day, Chevy Volt will use zero gasoline and produce zero emissions.

GM’s President and CEO Fritz Henderson said in a statement “When the Chevrolet Volt extended-range electric vehicle rolls off the assembly line late next year, it will be the first mass-production automobile to achieve triple-digit fuel economy, with an expected 230 mpg in the city, or 25 kilowatt hours per 100 miles,”

I wonder what Toyota with its Prius, Honda with the Insight and the hydrogen powered FCX Clarity have to say now but I am sure they are not just sitting on their hands. Next 5 years promise excitment.

The best and the worst performers in Indian car market

According to a poll by probably TOI, here is the list of the 6 best performing cars in terms of sales of course. The reasons for them to be the best performers can be many, but they sure fly off the showroom shelves really fast. According to the report, the indian car market churns about 400 different models and variants from 20 manufacturers. These 6 best selling cars make about 63% of total sales in India, which I think Forum Link...
