Daewoo's Changwon Plant at Full Capacity PDF Print E-mail

GM Daewoo's Changwon plant in Korea is running at full 20 hour per day capacity to produce the new Matiz Creative city car. The company has already recieved 5000 booking for it in less than a week before it was launched in Korea. The car comes with a 1000cc engine making 65PS and will also be launched in India at the Delhi Motor Show early next year. The car will be produced at GM's state of the art Talegaon plant and will of course be badged as a Chevrolet. With the Spark, which the previous generation of this car already selling in excess of about 3000 units a  month, this will be another weapon in the General's arsenal and every manufacturer needs a small car to make it 'big' in our market. The bold and distinctly styled car was already seen in the movie Transformers Revenge of the Fallen as SKIDS in it's pimped out avatar and with the right set of engines in India, it could be just what Chevy needs. Thinly disguised test cars have already been seen in various part of Pune and the level of finish noticed in them indicate it is very close to production. Expect a 3.5 lacs starting price and excellent deals on warranty and cashless ownership plans.

Harley Davidson Motorcycles - yes it is true. They had been thinking of coming to India for the past two years now and they even tried to force the government to reduce the import duties initially when the Mango thing happened remember. We said, we will oblige but USA please remove the 18 year old 'Alphonso from India' ban and nothing moved for a while. Well thing are different now. They are launching two of their bikes and yeah one of them is expected to start almost at 4 lacs. The highest could go up to 14. The bikes will be completely built units (CBU's) till they decide on the location of a greenfield facility in India. We can expect more sensible pricing then.

Toyota has finally launched its Fortuner in the domestic market for an pretty good price of 18.5 lacs ex-showroom delhi which is a deal for what all it offers standard. The engine is a 3 litre D4-D mill with Intercooler turbo generating 171BHP of power and 343Nm of torque. Nice.

It also comes with 256mm 17inch wheels, airbags, full time 4 wheel drive which is a first, 4 link rear suspension and fancy "full time 4WD" badging as well. What stands out is the way the seats can be configured to have various configurations to relax, sleep, sit but it can seat 7 as standard and they are available in full leather. The over fender above the wheels gives a solid look and there is side step as well below the doors. Multi reflector head lamps and real bonnet scoop to aid breathing for the intercooler is also on offer. 5 body colors are on offer and the giant weighs a hefty 2510 kgs.

The New Estilo today PDF Print E-mail

Maruti Suzuki "The way of life" will launch its new facelifted Estilo today. Here are the specs that are doing the rounds. It will come with A-Star's super smooth 3 cylinder K10B 1000cc engine which will generate a modest 68Bhp. Maximum torque would be in the range of 9.1Kgm and the weight of the car is about 865Kgs. The car will come in no less than 8 different colors to look at and the interiors too have been changed a bit though the beige is retained and it comes with a rear parcel shelf. Overall it looks better than before but anyway that is the maximum Maruti could do to change this otherwise boring looking car. The prices are expected to be similar and the car is going to be soon overshadowed by the Ritz, i10 and the A-star soon again because the facelift does not hide its age no matter what. The moment you look at it, you know it is the Zen Estilo and this is uninspiring. They have tried to break away from the one box design giving more angle to the bonnet though with little success and this car looks a little less of a bread box than before. The top end will come with ABS and Airbags but an automatic will not be on offer. The car will come with small 145mm tires and the VXI with 155mm which will make it look exactly like it did before.

Happy New Estilo Day on August 25th PDF Print E-mail
Written by Abhinav Sharma
Thursday, 20 August 2009 14:43

It is the new Zen Estilo Day on August 25th when Maruti will take wraps off its refreshed Zen Estilo. This car is actually the Suzuki MR Wagon, its production had stopped in Japan in late 90's. Maruti got this slightly outdated car to India and named it Zen Estilo. Of course it did not live upto the image of the original Zen which was anything but this car. Mechanically it shares a lot of components from the WagonR which lets Maruti price both these cars competetively. Maruti was keen to give the Estilo a new lease of life and we can expect it to get the new 1000cc all aluminium K10M engine which already powers the A-Star. This engine is BSIV compliant which comes in strength in 2010 and all manufacturers have to phase out engines which are not or tune them accordingly. We can expect some major improvements in looks and interiors but no one really knows the level of change this car will get. Maruti has guarded this very well and so far no pictures or designs have been sneaked out or seen online.

The best and the worst performers in Indian car market

According to a poll by probably TOI, here is the list of the 6 best performing cars in terms of sales of course. The reasons for them to be the best performers can be many, but they sure fly off the showroom shelves really fast.
